How to Convert Exabytes to Zettabytes
To convert exabytes to zettabytes, divide by 1,000 (using SI decimal). Both units measure storage capacity—the difference is scale. See also: ZB to Exabytes converter.
EB: An exabyte is 1,000 petabytes or 10^18 bytes. Used to measure global internet traffic and massive data volumes. Learn more: Exabytes to Tebibytes conversion.
ZB: A zettabyte is 1,000 exabytes or 10^21 bytes. Used to measure total global data storage. Check out our convert Bytes to Zettabytes.
1 EB = 0.001 ZB (using SI decimal standard) — or equivalently, 1 ZB = 1,000EB.
EB to ZB Conversion Formula
// Convert EB to ZB
ZB = EB × 0.001
// Reverse: Convert ZB to EB
EB = ZB × 1,000
EB to ZB Conversion Examples
100 EB = 0.1 ZB
256 EB = 0.256 ZB
500 EB = 0.5 ZB
1,000 EB = 1 ZB
2,048 EB = 2.048 ZB
Binary Standard (Base 1024)
Using binary calculation: 1 EB = 0.0009765625 ZB
100 EB = 0.09765625 ZB
1,000 EB = 0.9765625 ZB
1,024 EB = 1 ZB
What Is a Exabyte?
An exabyte is 1,000 petabytes or 10^18 bytes. Used to measure global internet traffic and massive data volumes. Try the Kibibits to Pebibits calculator.
The exabyte is a SI decimal unit of digital information storage. It uses base 1,000 following the SI (International System of Units) standard. Learn more: Exabits Per Second to Petabytes Per Second converter.
Common uses: Global internet traffic, hyperscale data centers, worldwide digital data estimation Try the Exabytes to Zebibits.
1 EB = 8 × 10¹⁸ bits = 1 × 10¹⁸ bytes.
The exabyte can be abbreviated as EB; for example, 1 exabyte can be written as 1 EB.
What Is a Zettabyte?
A zettabyte is 1,000 exabytes or 10^21 bytes. Used to measure total global data storage. See also: Yib → ZB.
The zettabyte is a SI decimal unit of digital information storage. It uses base 1,000 following the SI (International System of Units) standard. Check out our convert YB to GiB.
Common uses: Global data statistics, worldwide internet usage, total digital universe measurements Learn more: TiB/s to Tibps calculator.
1 ZB = 8 × 10²¹ bits = 1 × 10²¹ bytes.
The zettabyte can be abbreviated as ZB; for example, 1 zettabyte can be written as 1 ZB.

SI Decimal vs Binary: Why Two Different Standards?
When converting exabytes to zettabytes, different tools may give slightly different results. This is because there are two competing standards for measuring digital storage:
| Standard | Base | 1 KB equals | Used By |
|---|---|---|---|
| SI Decimal | 1000 | 1,000 bytes | Hard drive manufacturers, macOS, network speeds |
| Binary (IEC) | 1024 | 1,024 bytes | Windows, Linux (partially), RAM specifications |
Why Does My Hard Drive Show Less Space Than Advertised?
This difference in standards explains the common "missing hard drive space" confusion.
Example: A "500 GB" Hard Drive
- Contains exactly: 500,000,000,000 bytes
- macOS (SI Decimal): Displays 500 GB (divides by 1,000³)
- Windows (Binary): Displays 465 GB (divides by 1,024³)
The Verdict: Same bytes, same drive—just different math. No space is actually missing.
Note: Our calculator defaults to SI decimal (base 1000) to match the box label. To match Windows, toggle the standard at the top of the calculator.
💡 Storage Engineer Tip
Manufacturers label drives using SI decimal (base 1000). Windows divides by 1024 instead—that's why a "1 TB" drive shows as 931 GB. Same bytes, different math.
