Privacy Policy

Overview

StorageMath.org ("StorageMath," "we," "us," or "our") is a free set of data-storage and data-transfer calculators. This policy explains, in detail, what information is collected when you visit the site, which third-party services we use (Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity, Google AdSense, and similar advertising or analytics programs), how each of those services works, what cookies they set, and what choices you have.

The short version: your calculator inputs never leave your browser, we don't ask you to create an account, and we don't sell personal information. The long version — covering exactly how our analytics and advertising partners operate — is below.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect or ask you for:

  • Your name, email address, or postal address
  • Account credentials or registration data — StorageMath has no login system
  • Payment or billing information — every calculator is free and requires no purchase
  • The numbers you type into our converters and calculators

Every conversion, RAID calculation, IOPS estimate, and transfer-time projection runs entirely as JavaScript in your own browser. The values you enter are never transmitted to our servers, logged, or stored anywhere — they exist only in your browser's memory for as long as the page is open.

Information Collected Automatically

Like almost every website, our hosting infrastructure (Cloudflare) and our analytics providers automatically receive certain technical information whenever you load a page — this happens as a byproduct of how the web works, not because we specifically ask for it. This can include your IP address (used momentarily for routing and then generalized into an approximate location by our analytics tools; see below), browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen resolution, referring page, the pages you view on our site, and timestamps.

We use this information in aggregate — never to identify you individually — for two purposes: keeping the site fast and secure, and understanding which calculators and converters are actually useful so we can improve them. The sections below explain exactly which third-party tools process this data.

Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

We use Google Analytics 4, Google's web analytics service, to understand aggregate traffic patterns — which calculators are popular, how visitors navigate between pages, and which countries and devices our audience uses. Our GA4 property is tagged via Google's global site tag (gtag.js), loaded on every page.

What GA4 collects

  • Event and page-view data — every page load is sent to Google as an event, along with the page path and title.
  • Device and browser data — browser name/version, operating system, screen resolution, and device category (desktop, mobile, tablet).
  • Approximate geographic location — derived from your IP address, resolved to a city/region/country level. GA4 does not display or store your exact IP address to us in reports.
  • Traffic source — how you arrived at the site (search engine, direct visit, referral link, or campaign parameters).
  • A randomly generated client identifier — a pseudonymous ID stored in a first-party cookie, used to group events into sessions and distinguish (not identify) returning visitors.

Cookies GA4 sets

  • _ga — distinguishes unique users; expires after roughly 2 years.
  • _ga_<container-id> — persists session state for our specific GA4 property (measurement ID G-MHVM7J725M); expires after roughly 2 years.

Google processes this data on our behalf as a data processor and may combine it with data from other sites that use Google Analytics, subject to Google's own Privacy Policy. You can read Google's data-processing terms for Analytics at business.safety.google/adsprocessorterms.

Opting out: you can block GA4 entirely by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, by enabling a content/ad blocker, or by blocking third-party and analytics cookies in your browser settings.

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity, a behavioral analytics tool, to understand how visitors actually use our calculators — where they click, how far they scroll, and where they get stuck. Clarity does this by generating anonymized session recordings and heatmaps (aggregated click, scroll, and movement maps) for a sample of visits.

What Clarity collects

  • Interaction data — mouse movement, clicks, taps, and scroll depth, reconstructed into an anonymized playback of a browsing session.
  • Page and navigation data — pages visited, time on page, and referrer.
  • Device data — browser, operating system, and screen size.

Clarity is configured with input masking, which is why text you type into our calculator fields is not something we've asked Clarity to record as readable text in session replays. That said, Clarity is a third-party script we do not control at the code level, so we recommend avoiding entering sensitive personal information into any web form, on any site, as a general practice.

Cookies Clarity sets

  • _clck — persists a unique visitor ID across sessions, for roughly 1 year.
  • _clsk — connects multiple page views by a single visitor into a single Clarity session recording, for roughly 1 day.
  • CLID — identifies the first-time Clarity saw a given user on the site.
  • ANONCHK, MUID, MR, SM — Microsoft/Bing-associated identifiers used to store consent and coordinate identifiers across Microsoft's advertising and analytics stack.

Our Clarity project ID is yk4ns4sx3m. Microsoft's handling of Clarity data is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement and the Clarity FAQ / data-handling documentation. Clarity data is retained by Microsoft for a limited period (typically up to a few months) before being deleted or fully aggregated.

Google AdSense & Other Advertising Programs

StorageMath.org intends to display advertising through Google AdSense to help cover hosting and development costs, and our AdSense application is currently pending Google's approval. We are publishing this section now, in advance of running any ads, so that returning visitors always see an accurate, up-to-date description of how advertising on this site works.

We reserve reserved ad-slot space in the page layout (for example, the sidebar rail) that is currently empty. Once AdSense (or a comparable contextual advertising network, such as Media.net or Ezoic) is approved and enabled, this section will describe the live setup in more detail, and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change.

How Google AdSense works, once enabled

  • Third-party cookies for ad personalization. Google and its advertising partners use cookies — including the DoubleClick/Google Ads cookie (historically the "DART" cookie) — to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites across the web, in order to make the ads more relevant to you.
  • Non-personalized ads. Where required by applicable law (for example, for visitors in the EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions), ads may instead be served on a non-personalized basis, meaning frequency capping, aggregated contextual targeting, and fraud prevention still apply, but ads are not based on your prior browsing history.
  • Typical AdSense/Google Ads cookies you may see once ads are live include __gads, __gpi, _gcl_au, IDE, test_cookie, and NID — used respectively for ad delivery/frequency capping, conversion linking, ad targeting, verifying cookie support in your browser, and remembering ad preferences.
  • Consent. For visitors in regions that require it (such as under the EU/UK GDPR or ePrivacy rules), we will present a consent mechanism (a Google-certified Consent Management Platform, or "CMP") before any personalization cookies from advertising partners are set.

Your ad-choice controls

We may also participate in affiliate or referral programs in the future (for example, linking to storage hardware or cloud-storage providers). Where a link on this site is a paid or affiliate link, we intend to disclose that on the page where it appears.

Managing cookies in your browser

All modern browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies through their settings — usually under "Privacy and security." Blocking analytics and advertising cookies will not prevent you from using any calculator on this site; it only limits the data those third-party services can collect.

Local Storage

We use your browser's localStorage — a small on-device data store separate from cookies — to remember your dark/light theme preference between visits. This value never leaves your device and is never read by our servers or any third party.

Other Third-Party Services

  • Google Fonts — some typography assets may be fetched via Google-hosted infrastructure, which can expose your IP address to Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare — StorageMath.org is hosted and served via Cloudflare Workers/CDN, which processes standard connection metadata (IP address, request headers) to route requests, cache static assets, and protect against abuse. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

How Data Is Shared

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share any data with third parties beyond the analytics and advertising providers described above, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy and, where applicable, as a data processor acting on instructions consistent with that provider's standard terms. We may disclose aggregate, non-identifying statistics (for example, "most-viewed calculators this month") publicly or to partners; this never includes information capable of identifying an individual visitor.

Children's Privacy

StorageMath.org is a technical reference tool intended for IT professionals, system administrators, and students, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, please contact us so we can address it.

International Data Transfers

Because Google, Microsoft, and Cloudflare operate global infrastructure, data collected through the analytics and advertising tools described above may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Each provider maintains its own safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for cross-border transfers; see the linked privacy policies above for details.

Data Retention

We do not operate our own database of visitor data, so we have nothing to retain directly. Retention is governed by each third-party provider's own policy: Google Analytics 4 event data is retained under our configured retention window (commonly 2 months or 14 months, per Google's settings), Microsoft Clarity retains recordings and aggregated data for a limited period before deletion or full aggregation, and advertising cookies expire on the schedules noted above.

Data Security

The entire site is served over HTTPS/TLS. Since we do not operate accounts, forms that store personal data, or a backend database of visitor submissions, the practical attack surface for a data breach affecting personal information is minimal. Security for the analytics and advertising data described above is maintained by Google, Microsoft, and Cloudflare respectively, under their own security programs.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data collected about you (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or US state privacy laws such as the CCPA/CPRA). Because StorageMath.org does not maintain visitor accounts or a first-party database of personal information, most such requests are best directed at the analytics/advertising provider that holds the data (using the opt-out and settings links throughout this policy). For anything specific to this site, or if you're unsure where to start, contact us and we'll help route the request. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of a "sale" of data under the CCPA/CPRA.

Our site links to external websites (vendor documentation, our own social profiles, hardware and cloud-storage providers). We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or security of those third-party sites. Review their privacy policies before providing them with any information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy as our analytics, advertising, or hosting setup changes — most notably once our Google AdSense application is approved and ads go live. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
