Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and StorageMath.org ("StorageMath," "we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of storagemath.org, including all calculators, converters, guides, and related content (collectively, the "Site"). By accessing or using the Site in any way, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must stop using the Site immediately.

2. Eligibility and Permitted Users

The Site is intended for general professional and educational use by IT professionals, system administrators, students, and anyone else who needs quick storage and data-transfer calculations. The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly permit children under 13 to submit personal information through the Site. By using the Site, you represent that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

3. License to Use the Site

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Site's calculators and content for your own personal, educational, or internal business purposes. This license does not include any right to:

  • Resell, sublicense, rent, or lease access to the Site or its calculators
  • Copy, scrape, mirror, or republish substantial portions of the Site's content, formulas presentation, or design elsewhere
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the Site's source code beyond what your browser's standard developer tools expose
  • Remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notice on the Site
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers outside of standard search-engine indexing) to access the Site at a volume or frequency that could reasonably be expected to degrade the Site's performance for other users

4. Prohibited Conduct

In addition to the restrictions above, you agree not to use the Site to:

  • Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its servers, or any connected network or infrastructure (including our Cloudflare-hosted delivery)
  • Introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code
  • Click on, interact with, or generate artificial traffic to advertisements displayed on the Site (including any current or future Google AdSense or other ad-network placements) for the purpose of fraudulently inflating advertising revenue or impressions
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

All tools, calculators, and conversion results on StorageMath.org are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy. Without limiting the foregoing, we do not warrant that:

  • Calculator results are error-free, complete, or up to date with the latest storage standards
  • RAID capacity, overhead, and rebuild-time estimates will match actual hardware or controller behavior
  • IOPS and throughput calculations will reflect real-world performance under production workloads
  • Transfer-time estimates will match actual observed transfer speeds, which depend on network conditions well outside our control
  • Storage-capacity planning figures will match a specific vendor's published specifications or licensing terms
  • The Site will be uninterrupted, secure, or free of defects

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, StorageMath.org, its owner, and its contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including but not limited to lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, business interruption, or procurement costs of substitute services — arising out of or in connection with:

  • Hardware, software, or cloud-service purchasing decisions made in reliance on our calculator results
  • Storage architecture, RAID configuration, or infrastructure planning based on our tools
  • Data loss, downtime, or degraded performance resulting from reliance on our RAID, IOPS, or capacity calculations
  • Any financial loss related to your use of, or inability to use, the Site
  • Advertising content displayed on the Site by third-party ad networks (see Section 9)

Our tools are intended for informational and educational purposes only. Always verify critical calculations independently and consult qualified professionals and vendor documentation before making infrastructure, procurement, or production decisions. In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless StorageMath.org and its owner from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Site, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

8. Intended Use of Calculations

The calculators and converters on this Site are designed to provide quick estimates and reference values. They should be used as a starting point, not as the sole basis for:

  • Enterprise storage procurement decisions
  • Data center capacity planning at scale
  • RAID configuration for production systems
  • Service-level agreement (SLA) commitments to your own customers or internal stakeholders

We make reasonable efforts to keep conversion factors, formulas, and calculations accurate, but storage technology standards evolve and vendor implementations vary. If you discover an error, please contact us so we can correct it.

9. Advertising and Third-Party Content

The Site is, or in the future will be, partly supported by advertising, including Google AdSense and potentially other contextual advertising networks (see our Privacy Policy for the full technical explanation of how these programs use cookies and data). Advertisements are selected and served by third parties, not by us, and we do not control, endorse, and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or claims made in any advertisement displayed on the Site. Your interactions with any advertiser, including any purchase or transaction, are solely between you and that advertiser.

10. Intellectual Property

All content on StorageMath.org, including text, design, layout, graphics, code, and the specific presentation of calculators and tools, is the property of StorageMath or its licensors and is protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws. The underlying mathematical formulas and unit-conversion standards (SI decimal and IEC binary prefixes, RAID levels, etc.) are public technical standards and are not owned by us — what is protected is our specific implementation, wording, and design. You may use our tools for personal and professional purposes but may not reproduce, redistribute, or republish the Site's content or design without our prior written permission.

The Site may contain links to third-party websites (vendor documentation, cloud-storage providers, our own social-media profiles). These links are provided for convenience only. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, terms of use, or privacy practices of any linked third-party site, and including a link does not imply our endorsement.

12. Termination of Access

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to suspend or terminate your access to the Site, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful to other users, us, or third parties. Since the Site does not require an account, "termination" in practice means we may block access from specific networks or automated agents that violate Section 4.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable to the operator of the Site, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

14. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and StorageMath.org regarding your use of the Site, and supersede any prior agreements between you and us relating to the Site.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, including to reflect changes to our advertising setup or the tools offered on the Site. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
